Dodger

The Gipsy Moth V Name Dodger

This name dodger was salvaged from the port side of the vessel and still carries the grime of an around the world race.  It is what we believe to be the last original name plate for the Gipsy Moth V and represents one of the most historic items of the collection in the Southern Latitudes. The dodger spent many years on board the yacht, and its age is clear to see.  The eyelets correspond to the banner of Sir Francis Chichester seen waving here.

This name dodger spent many years on the Gipsy Moth and shows the rigors of time.  A priceless historical item which forms the key part of the Gipsy Moth collection.

A name dodger serves a number of functions and can act as a wind break when sailing up wind, It acts as a name dodger so you can duck behind it when sailing the vessel and last but not least, the name of the ship can be placed on it so that the vessel can be identified from a mile or two away.
