kept close to the cockpit of a sailing yacht so that it can be
grabbed in emergency, It might be close to the life-raft, It is
generally water tight so that the flares are protected from the
elements and any water or food stuffs are preserved. |

that is grabbed at the last moment before abandoning ship – It could
contain anything that the serious mariner would like to have, some
food supplies, batteries for a torch, signaling devices, high energy
